The Fall of Hong Kong : China's Triumph and Britain's Betrayal
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (November, 1996)
Author: Mark Roberti
Average review score:

How China will make a mess of this prosperous, free city.
A must-read for those who want to learn why Hong Kong is Asia's success story today, but may well be a casualty of history after the transfer of sovereignty on 30 June 1997. It is the first book to look at Hong Kong not from the perspective of Britain, the present landlord, or China, the future one -- but instead tells the story from the viewpoint of the 6.3 million people who call Hong Kong home. Instead of the freedom, human rights and democracy promised to Hong Kong people, this book explains why Beijing will make a mess both of the transfer of sovereignty and the fragile free society Hong Kong is today

The Far Away Man (Rinehart Suspense Novel)
Published in Hardcover by Holt Rinehart & Winston (August, 1985)
Author: William Leonard Marshall
Average review score:

Suspenseful, moving, ironic mystery set in Hong Kong
This is an unusual murder mystery set, as are most of William Marshall's books, in the fictional Hong Bay section of Hong Kong in the last several decades of British rule in Hong Kong. This time, Chief Inspector Fieffer, O'Yee, Spencer, and Auden are looking for a seemingly cold-blooded killer who is murdering Hong Kong residents who apparently have no connection to each other. As in other Yellowthread Street mysteries, it is up to Fieffer and company to figure out the connection between the crimes they are investigating. In this book, the connection is filled with irony, sadness, and greed, making this book far more than just a murder mystery. Marshall deserves to be much better known, and read, in this country than he apparently is. I hope, with Amazon.com's help, that he finds additional readers.

The Final Years of British Hong Kong: The Discourse of Colonial Withdrawal
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (December, 1997)
Author: John Flowerdew
Average review score:

It's a great summary of events leading up to the Handover.
It takes Hong Kong's history and digests the events into reality of today. What we see now is the result of history. Flowerdew reviews every aspect of the handover negotiations, including the role that each player had and their stakes. It is one of the best I've read.

The Hong Kong Advantage

Average review score:

an absolute must for anyone who wants to better know HK
I'm a studenf of the author at University of Hong Kong, although he's an American , his book tell me more about HK than anything else ever did. I began to have a fresh look at the things that's been around me for so long. This book is a must read for those Americans who know nothing but to raise the "free Tibet"sign whenever a Chinese official arrive and those who keep saying how Hong Kong will be a ruin after the handover.
